Vision
To participate in God’s transformation of our individual lives, our church and our community by deepening our connection with God.
Mission
To see people believe in Jesus Christ, belong to God’s church family, and become disciples who build self and others while edifying the kingdom of God. What does that look like to our faith, family, future, and focus? By faith, we begin to build a church family who’s future and focus is on discipleship, not membership.
WHO WE ARE
Cosmopolitan African Methodist Episcopal Church is and has been an anchor in Historic Vine City for over a century. Our denomination is a global denomination that welcomes everyone. The African Methodist Episcopal Church is predominately an African American denomination that was established in Philadelphia in 1787. The AMEC grew out of the Free African Society. Richard Allen, Absalom Jones, and others established the church after being physically removed from the altar while praying at the St. George’s Methodist Episcopal Church in Philadelphia. The denomination sought to remain independent of the Methodist church, becoming an independent Wesleyan denomination, the African Methodist Episcopal Church. Today, the African Methodist Episcopal Church has membership in twenty Episcopal Districts and in thirty-nine countries on five continents.
From Membership to Discipleship
“Go therefore and make disciples…” Matthew 28:19
